Responsibilities: 

  • Developing and deploying software, upgrades/patches, and testing for the WordPress site www.arlingtonva.us (and sites in the network using the same theme)
  1. Dev, QA, DR, and Production environments
  2. Examples of deployments for new items, feature updates, patches, or upgrades:
  • WordPress Core code
  • Plugins (examples: Event Manager, Gravity Forms, Custom Sidebars, Highcharts, WordPress SEO, User Role Editor)
  • Theme (Genesis framework)
  • CSS, icons, JS, and fonts
  • Components that support the web infrastructure (cache, SSL certificates, domain name services, etc.)
  1. Reviewing project documentation 
  2. Drafting deployment, testing and other project documentation
  3. Coordinating testing activities 
  4. Tracking deployment-related software issues
  5. Conducting and summarizing operational “Lessons Learned” discussions
  6. Code review of all WordPress theme and plugin code that is custom-developed
  7. Testing web applications
  8. Compiling and formatting website performance and statistical reports for management use
  9. Researching and suggesting solutions (plugins, etc.) to business problems
  10. Creating governance for use of plugins and third-party code
  11. Vetting plugins and third-party code against our standards
  12. Suggesting improvements to processes or infrastructure
  13. Change management processes for all deployments

 

Coordinating ticket management for Public Website queue:

  • Management of WordPress theme/plugin tickets 
  • Responding to help desk requests 
  • Coordinating effective communication between all parties
  • Ensuring appropriate documentation is generated during resolution process
  • Ensuring DTS customers are kept informed during resolution process and satisfied with vendor solutions

 

Required Skills:

  • Proven WordPress development – provide WordPress plugin or theme code samples written by you
  • Customer service, organizational and multi-tasking capabilities
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Independent assignment, action and follow-through on tasks
  • WordPress administration with multisite installs using subdomains
  • Version control experience with code 

 

Desired Skills:

  • Knowledge of HTML and/or client-side web development scripting languages
  • Experience with PHP development
  • Experience with network systems 
  • Use of distributed version control systems and code management systems such as Git and BitBucket
  • Experience hosting websites using Amazon Web Services IaaS infrastructure
  • Experience with IT automation/orchestration tools such as Ansible 
  • Experience with Event Manager and GravityForms plugins
