ASSYST's z-Linux, z/OS migration services extend benefits of security, high availability, and cost-effectiveness to IRS' Mainframe and Legacy Systems

ASSYST has been selected by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to provide application and security consulting in support of the Linux Migration Initiative, including converting legacy applications and implementing virtualization and containerization strategies (Dockers) for more efficient and cost-effective use of resources. We are helping the IRS in the rapid provisioning of the computing infrastructure and supporting the enterprise demand for Linux migration from server deployment of new environments to decommissioning of aged infrastructure, in collaboration with stakeholders and other IT vendors. The migration will include the IRS mainframe applications environment and other areas, including UNIX, Open Source/z-Linux, z/OS, iSeries, Solaris, and Windows.

ASSYST’s application security subject-matter expertise will provide legacy application migrations, including major technology upgrades that will impact over 70 IRS applications. Many of these applications are supported by web server software, including IBM WebSphere, and ASSYST will provide expertise and services in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of RACF within a z/VM environment. The project will support the virtualization of z/Linux on z/VM and will enable the installing and configuring of RACF, DirMaint, ISPF, and z/Secure. Migration will impact applications developed and maintained both online and batch, using PL/I, COBOL, RPG, MQSeries, CICS, IMS, DB2, IDMS and Oracle databases. The migration program consists of many high priority systems, the first of which is Modernized E-File (MEF).

We will help support the IRS’ strategic goals, using our knowledge in the incremental modernization of legacy systems, adapting to evolving financial regulatory requirements, and addressing security and privacy issues associated with Federal financial systems. As mainframes remain the backbone of the enterprise and federal computing environment running mission-critical applications, ASSYST is happy in supporting IRS systems environments that process several millions of filings and associated transactions.

This award is under the Alliant Small Business Governmentwide Acquisition Contract (GWAC), an Office of Management and Budget designated best-in-class vehicle.
